FUNDAMENTAL OBJECTIVES: The Coordinator supports and advises principals, teachers, service providers, and other staff members regarding the planning, coordination, and implementation of comprehensive programs to provide efficient and effective services to special education students within Northwest BOCES and its member school districts.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Maintain knowledge of and implement special education services in accordance with IDEA and ECEA requirements, and the special education operating agreement between NW BOCES and its member districts.
- Educate and collaborates with district and NW BOCES administrators, educators, and providers to ensure compliance with state and federal statutes and regulations governing special education services and Individual Education Plans.
- Support the implementation of a new IEP software.
- Serve as a consultant to all special education staff and district administration regarding the IEP process, documentation, meetings, services, resources, and attending team meetings, as needed and requested
- Review and evaluate IEPs in each district for compliance.
- Assist in coordination, facilitation, and monitoring of the development and implementation of effective curriculum and instructional practices and school policies, as well as problem solving practices and procedures (based on student data) that fully consider the needs of special education students
- Provide mentorship and training to new special education teachers in the NW BOCES region pertaining to SPED services and writing compliant IEP’s
- Work with SPED Director to provide ongoing professional development to special education teams.
- Serve on district, community, regional, and state level committees, as appropriate.
- Coordinate with SPED Director to advise school district personnel on consideration and inclusion of assistive technology on individual educational plans-IEPs.
- Provide assistive technology coordination to support school personnel in integrating assistive technology.
- Supervise and work with SWAP Coordinator and Specialist to develop and maintain a continuum of transition services in NW BOCES region.
- Work in partnership with businesses and community agencies that provide services to students with disabilities.
- Attend NW BOCES Board Meetings at the request of the Executive Director.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in education/Special Education, or related field of special services
- Licensure: Special Education Endorsement; prefer a Special Education Director endorsement in the state of Colorado
- Experience teaching/working with students with disabilities or similar employment duties required.
BENEFITS:
- Salary Range of $55,750 - $90,000 is based on a 180-day work-year calendar and depends on qualifications and experience. Pay will be prorated based on start date and placement on salary schedule.

- Colorado PERA defined benefit pension plan – all employees are required to contribute to this plan instead of Social Security.
